SAN ANTONIO – Special events and entertainment for the entire family will highlight the “EGGstra” Special Easter Festival at Morgan’s Wonderland on Saturday, March 31.
Hours of operation at the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while festival activities will be concentrated between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Regular Morgan’s Wonderland admission rates will apply; as always, those with special needs will be admitted free of charge.
“Instead of a traditional Easter egg hunt, we’re going to pursue something new – an Easter EGGventure,” said Ron Morander, general manager. “Our guests will visit various locations throughout the park and receive plastic Easter eggs filled with surprises from non-profit organizations and vendors participating in our Spring Resource Fair. There guests also can obtain information about the services available from these organizations.”
Morander added that the EGGventure will be somewhat similar to trick or treating. Guests not only can collect prized-filled eggs assembled by students at The Academy at Morgan’s Wonderland but also can take part in tabletop games and activities.
Festival highlights also will include the Bunny Hop dance parade at 11:15 a.m. led by the Inclusion Fusion dance team, “Hartman’s House” interactive puppet show at 12:15 p.m. and an information station hosted by hosted by STRAPS (South Texas Regional Adaptive and Paralympic Sports), which offers recreation and sports competition for those with physical and cognitive special needs.
Throughout the festival, The Wonder Squad super heroes will greet guests; DJ Happy will play hip-hop and other lively songs; and Easter Joy, butterfly mascot/costumed character, will pose for pictures. Other activities will include Arty Party for guests desiring to create their own art work; games like bean bag toss and Buckets of Fun bowling; and face painting by The Jolly Joeys clown troupe.
